Jounen Kreyol (Creole)

This annual local celebration of our french/african influence started in 1984 is held on the last sunday of October. Traditionally the week before children and adults adorn themselves in a plaid called madras print, some with straw hats or pins. It really is up to the individual and depending on your level of creativity and free ‘time’ the designs range from simple to extrodinary. Most people commemorate this day with the National wear known as the Wob Dwiete. Four communities are chosen every year to host the festivities which include folklore, games, music and my absolute favourite food. You don’t get to indulge in some of these dishes at any other time so do enjoy if you’re a foodie like me.
